BELFAST - At a nomination event held earlier today at the Belfast Rec Centre in Belfast, Green Party of PEI members nominated Matthew Keeping as their candidate for District 4 (Belfast-Murray River). The contested nomination was determined after one round of voting with Keeping winning over Jim Sanders, also from the area.
Matthew Keeping has put his training to good use in a number of different areas including leadership positions with local tech companies and non-profits. He’s done research for AVC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences, worked as a Legal Administrative Assistant in Daniel Tweel’s law office, and for 5 years as Chief Operations Officer for Server Sitters LLC.
His formal education consists of a BA in Business Administration and Philosophy and a 1 Year Legal Administrative Specialist program.
Respecting all members of our society is at the forefront for Matthew. His past work with the Native Council of PEI allowed him the opportunity to learn and grow in his commitment to honour and respect all Islanders. Matthew is dedicated to his community and wants to ensure its residents are heard and can participate in collaborative processes in decision-making. He believes that strong communities mean a healthy population, and is passionate about addressing issues like poverty, government accountability and improving education. He brings with him a commitment to strengthening communities, improving fiscal responsibilities, community sustainability, innovation and opportunities.
Matthew resides in Orwell, PEI with his wife Samantha.
Green Party leader Peter Bevan-Baker, spoke to the capacity crowd of 75 people gathered for the nomination meeting stating, “stepping forward to run for a nomination is a tough decision to make, and to have two excellent choices for the Green Party here today tells me the Party is in good shape. We are in a totally different place than we were a year ago, thanks to the commitment and dedication to our ever-growing team of formidable nominees”
The next nomination meeting takes place in District 5, Mermaid-Stratford, Tuesday evening at 7pm at the Alexandra School House in Alexandra.
