Peter Bevan-Baker, leader of the Island Green Party, is sharing in the widespread pride that many Islanders are feeling following the plebiscite results.
“Prince Edward Island is the place where the discussions that led to the birth of our nation started, and now, this same little Island is leading the process to evolve beyond the antiquated electoral system that our country inherited back then in the 19th century from the British Empire. This moves us into the 21st century in line with the vast majority of Western democracies that use some form of proportional representation. PEI is once again leading the nation, and I am so proud of my fellow Islanders who were not fearful of embracing change.”
The Green Party eagerly anticipates Legislation being introduced into the House when it opens next week, and of PEI being Canada’s first province to adopt a modern democratic system.
