Joanna MOrrison
District 11 Charlottetown-Belvedere
Charlottetown, PE - Joanna Morrison is the Green Party of PEI candidate for District 11, Charlottetown-Belvedere, in the 2023 provincial election.
Jo was raised in Alberton, PEI and moved to Charlottetown in 2014 to attend the Marketing & Advertising Management program at Holland College. After graduation Jo moved her way through the hospitality industry - doing everything from fry cook to management to barista. If you drink coffee, she’s probably made you one! In her spare time, Jo is passionate about fostering a movement of community care and is a dedicated volunteer and activist. As one of the founding
members of Charlottetown Mutual Aid, she has organized with the community to advocate for supports and provide direct care, including relief efforts after Hurricane Fiona. Through her advocacy, she became more involved in politics and ran for City Council in the 2022 Charlottetown Municipal Election.
“I believe we need more passionate, progressive candidates in the race. I am young, queer, low-income, and a renter, and I don’t often see myself represented in government,” says Jo. “My hope is that by running, I will inspire more folks who are like me to get involved in government, whether by running themselves, getting involved in the community, or simply just voting. As an MLA, I would be as involved in the community as I possibly could be to provide care & advocacy. I am not afraid to speak up and would do my best to push PEI to be less oppressive.”
Jo is motivated to continue her work in the community and currently resides in Charlottetown with her partner and their two cats.
